The yarn consists of 60% extra fine merino wool and 40% Lyocell. Lyocell is 100% biodegradable. Wood is chopped into small pieces and dissolved in water. Then the pulp is dissolved out by adding the non-toxic solvent NMMO. NMMO is then filtered out of the water without residue and used for further production processes. This process was awarded the "European Award for the Enviroment" by the EU. The Tencel® of the Austrian company "Lenzing Fibers" used in the yarn Balance is their brand name for the material Lyocell. The Tencel® used by Atelier Zitron is made of eucalyptus wood.
Tencel® is breathable, can absorb a lot of moisture and can drain it off directly to the outside, thus preventing the formation of bacteria and odors. The surface is cool and smooth, which makes it comparable to silk products in terms of daytime comfort and shine. The fibre is completely biodegradable and in combination with the exceptionally high-quality Merino Extrafine, the raw material cycle of the yarn is closed sustainably.
